The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
