Supporters Call for Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are demanding that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the Australian man bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though legal records showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-part version of the acclaimed stage show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two distinct characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, winning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
