Outrage Explodes as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Sharp Criticism

Individuals from both sides of the partisan divide and the Hollywood industry are coming together to condemn former President Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the shocking passing of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Statement

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood home, Trump took to social media to label the late director as "anguished and suffering". In a post, he claimed Reiner's demise was "due to the anger he provoked others through his enormous, unyielding, and untreatable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Arrest

Police have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the incident. Reports indicate his bond was set at a substantial sum.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's post was swift and scathing.

This is a disgusting and vile comment,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also condemned the remarks. Goldberg referenced previous comments from Trump about political violence, asking, "Have you no shame? Can you get any worse?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "This is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they opposed him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from Within Political Ranks

Some GOP lawmakers also expressed disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about politics or rivals". She also alluded to challenges with substance abuse and psychological well-being within families.

Fellow Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the nature of the deaths. He publicly dared members in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. During a past conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also cautioned about the dangers of authoritarian rule should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner said. "If we fall, there’s a risk that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation after the shooting of another individual.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
