Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
