Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”
It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”
Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.
“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
