Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
