Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
